AMC View
Unique AMC has had a strong start - with strong performance since inception and being able to achieve a reasonable level of scale. Our main concern is that the investments team does not have a past public fund management track record, and the strategies performance in a prolonged market downturn is untested.
AMC Pedigree
Unique AMC comes with a broking heritage (Unique Investment Consultancy) and they launched their PMS business in 2019. While they have done well in initial years, we have not yet seen how the strategies perform in downcycles .
Team Pedigree
Senior FM's Ketan Gopan and Sunil Kothari have over 30 years of experience in equity broking, but less in equity fund management. The skills needed for success in each field can differ, so we will wait for Unique team to establish a track record in PMS strategies for a more thorough evaluation of their fund management abilities.
Investment Philosophy
Invest in businesses that fund managers understand, avoid overpaying, and focus on long-term business ownership. Strategy involves owning 15-25 companies for 3-5 years.
